Cherelle Mead - Counselling & Psychotherapy services

Counselling & Psychotherapy

I specialise in neurodivergence and trauma-informed practice. I support clients from all walks of life – including those with experiences of marginalisation and systemic oppression, as well as high-profile individuals, professionals and those working in high pressure environments.

I work with a wide range of issues, including:

Advocacy & Leadership

In addition to my clinical work, I am honoured to serve as a charity trustee and as the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) Representative for Wales. In this capacity, I advocate for the needs of counselling professionals and trainees, striving to enhance anti-oppressive practices within our field.

Advocacy is a core passion of mine; I am deeply committed to amplifying the voices of marginalised communities and understanding the unique, complex experiences of oppressed groups. I believe that effective advocacy requires not only a commitment to social justice but also a willingness to engage in difficult conversations about power, privilege and systemic inequities. By fostering an inclusive dialogue within the profession, I aim to create a space where diverse perspectives are valued and where all practitioners can thrive.

Through my leadership roles, I work to ensure that the principles of equity and inclusion are at the forefront of our practices, ultimately contributing to a more just and compassionate therapeutic landscape.

Writing, Speaking & Training

I am passionate about my role as a writer, speaker and trainer in the mental health field. I deliver training sessions on critical topics such as trauma, neurodivergence and identity, with a focus on fostering inclusive, compassionate and practical learning environments.

My approach emphasises the importance of creating safe spaces for dialogue, where participants can explore their own experiences and perspectives. I believe that effective training not only imparts knowledge but also encourages reflection and connection among participants. By addressing the complexities of mental health through various lenses, I aim to equip professionals with the tools they need to support diverse clients effectively.

Through my writing and speaking engagements, I strive to raise awareness about mental health issues and advocate for a more nuanced understanding of social contexts and the varied experiences individuals face. My goal is to inspire others to engage in meaningful conversations and to promote practices that honour the dignity and uniqueness of each person.

Supervision

As a qualified counselling supervisor, I am dedicated to supporting both new and experienced therapists in feeling seen, resourced and confident in their practice. My supervision style is relational and grounded in the 7-Eyed model, which facilitates a comprehensive exploration of the therapeutic process. I create a safe space for reflection, challenge and professional growth, while also encouraging an open dialogue about power dynamics within the therapy room, including considerations of race and class.

Recognising the unique experiences of each supervisee is crucial; I believe that understanding our own backgrounds and biases informs our practice. This relational approach not only fosters trust but also invites a deeper exploration of how our life experiences shape our therapeutic relationships. My aim is to help supervisees navigate their own journeys and blind spots, encouraging them to challenge their assumptions and develop a nuanced understanding of their own clients’ contexts.

In our sessions, we often incorporate discussions around anti-oppressive practices, ensuring that we remain aware of our privileges and the systemic factors and social contexts that influence our clients’ lives. I strive to make our supervision sessions not only a place for professional development, but also a space for personal connection – and perhaps a few laughs along the way.
